02What You Get

What partnership looks like

Membership is a three-year partnership, not a one-off form. We ask for a meaningful commitment, and in return, we give you something meaningful back.

What you give

Your representation data. Workforce gender breakdown by level and function, refreshed annually for three years. Shared confidentially and aggregated into the sector benchmark — your individual data is never identifiable.

What you get

  • Members only

A seat in the annual report.

Your data and your story featured in the WIP Annual Report — the first proper picture of women in ports and port services.

  • Members only

The sector benchmark, before anyone else.

Get early access to the anonymised sector benchmark before it’s published. See where you’re leading, where there’s room to improve, and where to focus next.

03Why It Matters

You’re competing for talent. You’re not competing for half of it.

Ports are short on people. Every authority, operator and terminal is feeling it. UNCTAD’s latest data shows that nearly 40% of port managerial roles are held by women — but women are still underrepresented across the operational workforce. (UNCTAD, 2025)

The exact number? We don’t even have a reliable picture. That’s part of the problem we’re here to fix.

The talent is there. The question is whether the sector is doing enough to attract it. The organisations that get this right will have a bigger talent pool to recruit from — and a better chance of getting the people they need.

That’s the opportunity.

04Five Hubs

Five hubs. One membership. One connected platform.

Through Innovation, Research & Analysis, Advocacy, Knowledge and Future Ports, we focus on delivering real value to members — from attracting and retaining talent to strengthening your reporting, reputation and influence.

  • Innovation

See what’s working across the sector before you commit to a programme that doesn’t. A place to share what you’re trying, and to learn from organisations doing the same.

  • Research & Analysis

Know where you stand. Members get early access to their representation against the anonymised sector benchmark, along with the data and insight behind it — giving you a clearer basis for decisions, reporting and policy.

  • Advocacy

Add your organisation’s strength to the collective voice for women in the sector — through WIP campaigns, the speakers’ bureau, and the conversations we’re starting with policy-makers.

  • Knowledge

Give your people the opportunity to learn, develop and connect through our programmes and Academy. Members get preferential rates, making it easier to invest in the people you want to keep and the people you want to attract.

  • Future Ports

Build the social side of your ESG and sustainability story with the data, language and insight to back it up. Connect with the women already helping to shape the future of ports and the green transition.

05How It Works

Three steps to membership.

Joining is easy and takes three simple steps to start your partnership.

  1. Tell us about your organisation

A short form — who you are, who’ll be the main contact, and a confirmation that you’re ready to commit to the three-year partnership. Two minutes.

  2. We confirm and onboard

We send your welcome pack, introduce you to the member network, and book a 30-minute call to walk through the data submission and what to expect from year one.

  3. Share your first data set

You submit your baseline representation data using our template. From there, you’re a full member — logo live, benchmark access on, panels and platforms open.

06Questions

Questions we get asked.

The short version of the things organisations want to know before they sign up.

  • What data do you actually need from us?

Workforce gender breakdown by level and function — approximately, how many women and men are in your organisation, at what seniority, and in what kinds of roles. Refreshed once a year. We give you a template; your people team will recognise the format.

  • Who sees our data?

We do. It's stored confidentially and used only to build the anonymised sector benchmark and the WIP Annual Report. Your individual organisation's numbers are never published unless you choose to share them.

  • Why three years?

Because one year of data is a snapshot, not a story. Three years lets us — and you — see real movement, spot patterns, and report change with confidence. It's the minimum that makes the benchmark mean something.

  • It's really free? What's the catch?

Really free. No subscription, no upsell. The exchange is the data. That's how the benchmark gets built, and how the sector finally has a number it can trust.

  • Is this only for port operators and terminals?

No. We mean ports and port services broadly — port authorities, terminal operators, stevedoring, towage, pilotage, port-side logistics, port technology and recruitment, training providers working in ports. We don't cover wider shipping or seafarers — there are other excellent organisations for that.

  • What if we need to leave before three years?

Life happens. The three-year commitment is a partnership, not a contract — there's no penalty for stepping back if circumstances change. We just ask you to tell us early so we can plan around it.

Be one of the organisations on the page.

In the annual report, on the panels, in the data. Not in the footnote about who isn’t.
